Starting form April 27, 1987, the fourth RMB set went into circulation in five lots of nine denominations. They comprised of 1 jiao, 2 jiao, 5 jiao, 1 yuan, 2 yuan, 5 yuan, 10 yuan, 50 yuan and 100 yuan.
Compared with the three earlier sets, the fourth RMB set made major innovations in design, artistic execution and printing technique.
The fourth set fully illustrates the essence of the nation, capturing the hard-working spirit of the Chinese people and their concerted efforts in spreading the nationwide campaign of economic reform and opening up to the rest of the world.
